Project Facts

Reasons for Project Failure

✔ No Clear Objectives - The team doesn't know what the project is about or what is expected from them.

✔ Poor Communication - If nobody knows what they are meant to be doing or what others are doing, and people are unsure who to report to the project will not succeed.

✔ Poor Planning - Any problems that should have been predicted in planning (especially if no planning is performed) may occur and incur negative consequences.

✔ No Effective Project Monitoring - If nobody notices the project is going offtrack, nobody will be able to do anything about it.

✔ No Change Control - If things were added with no attempt to check if they are within scope, affordable or feasible. The changes may not be worth the effort or cost. This is also known as 'scope creep'. The cumulative effect of scope creep can become overwhelming and kill a project.

✔ No Risk Management - The project is affected by something that could have been foreseen, controlled or prevented.

✔ Unclear Scope - Nobody is sure what expected to be included within the project, and what is unwanted or unneeded, if things are discovered to late, it may increase budget and timecosts.

✔ Unrealistic Finance / Staffing - Unable to do a project of that size on such a small budget. Or unable to do the project with so few staff, or staff that were unable to deliver due to other factors.

✔ Project was not feasible - Someone wanted the project, but nobody realised it would cost considerably more than it would save.
