PRlNCE2 is tailored to suit the project's environment, size, complexity, importance, capability and risk.
Due to PRINCE2's flexible nature it can applied regardless of these factors. However, it is important to tailor the project to them. If a project is not tailored it increases the chance the effort and approach of project management team will be wasted.
The purpose of tailoring is to ensure the project management method relates to the project environment by aligning the project to business processes. Also it aims to ensure the project controls are based on the project's cale, complexity, importance, capability and risk.
This requires the project manager and project board to mjake a decision on how PRINCE2 is going to be applied. Tailoring requires information and decisions. To ensure that all people involved understand how PRINCE2 is meant to be used the PID should state how the method is being tailored for the specific project.
