Overcoming Common Project Problems

Part of the success of PRINCE2 is attributed to many parts of planning and control are common to every project. As a result, most project problems are common too. This section looks at these problems and how PRINCE2 can overcome them.

Many projects are unsuccessful

Project failure is common. But what is failure?

A failure can be defined as the loss of the entire project or something can go wrong in one or more aspects. Most organisations are concerned with time, money and quality. Of course, there may be different viewpoints from differing organisations as to what constitues failure. For example, if a project is slightly overbudget but otherwise has delivered exactly what was required, is this a failed project?

PRINCE2 can be utilised to help avoid complete or partial failure in either IT or business projects.
