Project Roles and Responsibilities

Project Board

The Project Board is responsible for the overall direction and management of the project. The board has responsibilites and authority as defined by corporate or programme management.

The Project Board can be viewed as the intermediary between the outside world as is also responsible for any publicity and information about the project.

The Board approves all major plans and authorises any major deviation from agreed plans. It is by the Board's authority that allow the start of the next stage. In addition to this the board ensures the required resources are commited.

The Board is also responsible for resolving any conflict between the project and external bodies.

The Board has seperate responsibilites for each stage of the project, from the beginning, as the project progresses and at the end.

The Beginning - Responsibilities

✔ Approve the start of the project via accepting the Project Brief & approve the project initiation document.

✔ Agree with the project manager on responsibilites and objectives and confirm project tolerances.

✔ Specify constraints such as quality assurance.

✔ Delegate roles and commit resources.

Throughout the Project - Responsibilities

✔ Provide overall guidance and direction and review each completed stage and approve progress to the next.

✔ Review and approve stage plans and exception plans and approve any changes.

✔ Ensure compliance with corporate or programme management.

End of A Project - Responsibilities

✔ Ensure that all products have been delivered in accordance with acceptance criteria.

✔ Approve the End Project Report and the Lesson Learned Report and pass them to the appropriate groups.

✔ Approve a Post-Project Review PLan and send a project closure notification to corporate or programme management.

The Board's prime responsibility is to ensure that the project remains on course and delivers the correct outcome that meets the required quality.
