The project manager has the authority to run the project on a day-to-day basis on behalf of the project board (within constraints defined by the project board).
The project manager must be someone who possesses project skills and, especially in early stages, project planning skills. As well as strong planning and management skills, the Project Manager must also have practical understanding of how to apply PRINCE2 and make it work well and effectively for the project.
The PRINCE2 method only allows for one project manager, but it can accomodate many team managers.
The project manager's prime responsibility is to ensure the quality produced meets the required specifications within the constraints of time and cost.
It is best to ensure that both the Executive and Project Manager both have sufficient time available to devote to the project.
