If the project is not checked on a regular and timely basis, there is a risk it will become out of control. There has to be an effective balance between planning ahead and reaction to events. This comes from comparing what was expected to happen, what actually happened and what mighht happen next. The only way to ensure this happens properly is by having a constant flow of information that provides an overal view of progress. This requires simple and robust monitoring systems to supply this information.
As a result the objective of this activities is to maintain an accurate and current picture of progress on the work being carried out and the status of any resources.
PRINCE2 recommends the following actions:
✔ Review progress for the stage
✔ Based on the review performed decide whether any actions are required.
✔ Consider whether to review lessons now or wait until a later review of stage status.
✔ If the end of the final stage is approaching, prepare to close the project.
